Thought for the Week- wc 11th December 2017
“Guidance, like all God's acts of blessing under the covenant of grace, is a sovereign act. Not merely does God will to guide us in the sense of showing us his way, that we may tread it; he wills also to guide us in the more fundamental sense of ensuring that, whatever happens, whatever mistakes we may make, we shall come safely home. Slippings and strayings there will be, no doubt, but the everlasting arms are beneath us; we shall be caught, rescued, restored. This is God's promise; this is how good he is.”
― J.I. Packer, Knowing God
This week in school we continue our Advent preparations, and we are thinking how God guides us during this time of the year. Advent can be a truly manic time in our school community, and so it is important that we allow God to keep us on the right track, as we eagerly await the birth of his only Son.
The quote above is very relevant to us all at St Gregory’s as we all go through times where we stray from God’s guidance. Through our Collective Worship this week we will be reflecting on the guidance we are given and how we can respond to the calling of God.
The theme for this week is ‘Peace’, and we are told that by awaiting the coming of Jesus, we have been brought into the peace of God, which can never be undone. Let us keep this peace alive, day by day, both at home and in our school community.
